DR CAREY MARTIN
Co-founder Dr Carey Martin is Passionate about
providing PRIMARY MEDICAL SERVICES WHILST INTEGRATING
A ‘WHOLE PERSON’ APPROACH TO PATIENT CARE, UTILISING
A FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE PHILOSOPHY.
Dr Martin graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1992, having previously been to Otago University and having worked in both academic research and market research fields. Her hospital years as a House Surgeon were at Taranaki Base Hospital and it was there that she completed post graduate diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics. She started training as a GP in Wellington and worked as a locum there in 1996-1997. In mid 1997, she moved back up to New Plymouth to start her first general practice.
Her journey as a GP quickly led her down the functional and integrated medicine pathway as she realised many people were not getting better with the conventional approach. She realised it was the underlying causes of illness that were important and that healthcare ‘just had’ to address these.
Dr Martin is passionate about keeping up to date with medicine related sciences and continues to learn as much as she can. She regularly attends, in person or virtually, local, regional, national and international medical educational webinars, meetings and conferences. This includes regular GP training as well as functional/integrative medicine, nutritional/herbal/lifestyle medicine events.
Dr Martin loves off road running, mountain biking, tramping, snowboarding, and will get into the mountains where ever she gets the opportunity. Her passion is orienteering which she has competed in for 30 years and she continues to attend orienteering events nationally and overseas.
She lives on 10 acres, grows lots of berries, tries to keep a vegetabe garden alive and loves New Plymouth with the beach and the mountain all in one package. Other interests include travelling, reading and yoga.
